You really made it good The expression, shading, ambient... They all match ! The non-hyper-detailled centers attention to the character, and makes it feel-fulling (I'll invent this expression if it does not exist).
But... Is there a reason to look on left side ("past" side) instead of the right side ("future" side)? Would be better to turn right if you're hoping for something in the future...
OH, I got it! it's not a hoping for something to happen, it's a hoping for something shouldn't have happened! Aka, there, it more looks like regrets than hopes.
The art style comes together quite nicely and makes for a very interesting art piece. Though there are many things I like here ranging from the perfect anatomy to the background to the way you designed and stylized the dragon as well as the posing and facial expressions. All of which are essential for capturing the attention of the audience and you did that quite nicely.
The shading you implemented here works in conjunction with the background and I really like seeing just how much attention to detail you put with the lighting here.
A new sunrise to watch, a new year... a new opportunity for a fresh start and hope. I like the grey-ish effect with the colours, it gives an impression that she is coming out of a dark or sad period of time, (thus the reason for the title 'hope). That's my theory anyway.
